ACCIONA Energía has completed the commissioning and start of commercial operations of its Opor (27 MW) and Boraja II (45 MW) wind farms in Croatia. Both wind farms have begun supplying electricity to the national grid through Hrvatski Operator Tržišta Energije (HROTE), the Croatian energy market operator.

The Opor wind farm is located in the Split-Dalmatia region and features six turbines, while Boraja II is in Šibenik-Knin and comprises 10. Both use 4.5 MW Nordex turbines mounted on 105-m steel towers.

Both projects are linked to 12-year contracts for difference, awarded through a public auction under a programme launched by the Croatian Government and HROTE and approved by the European Commission to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy. This mechanism guarantees a reference price for the electricity generated, providing revenue stability for the projects and reducing their exposure to wholesale market price volatility.

The Opor and Boraja II wind farms created up to 400 direct jobs during peak construction activity. The projects will generate around 203 GWh of clean electricity annually and prevent the emission of approximately 135 000 tpy of carbon dioxide.

With the commissioning of Opor and Boraja II, ACCIONA Energía strengthens its presence in Croatia, where it owns and operates the Jelinak wind farm (30 MW), also located in Split-Dalmatia, since 2013. The company now has 102 MW of installed wind power capacity in the country and is also building the Promina solar plant (189 MWp) in the Šibenik-Knin region.
