Econergy Ltd, a leading European renewable energy independent power producer, has connected its 40 MW/120 MWh Dalmarnock battery energy storage system (BESS) in Glasgow, Scotland, to the UK grid. It is Econergy's second connected BESS in the UK, after the 50 MW/100 MWh Swangate project connected in 2024.

Full commercial operation is expected by December 2026, providing flexibility to the regional electricity system, storing, and dispatching power in response to market conditions.

Dalmarnock is supported by a project financing agreement with Santander UK plc for approximately £21 million. Econergy has also entered into a 10-year floor agreement with EDF, providing a minimum annual revenue, together with an additional revenue-sharing mechanism.

Dalmarnock is part of Econergy's ~2.2 GW storage-led UK portfolio. Four further UK projects are under construction: Immingham (80 MW/240 MWh, financed on the same Santander and EDF structure, with grid connection expected in 2027) and a portfolio of three projects totalling 160 MW/500 MWh, expected to connect in 2027 – 2028.

Joshua Murphy, Director of Energy Storage at Econergy, commented: “We are delighted to have connected Dalmarnock to the grid. We finalised the development, financed and delivered the project, and are now bringing it into operation. With a three-hour duration, the system is designed to absorb surplus renewable generation and discharge during peak demand. We have chosen EDF to optimise the asset and our agreement with them provides a 10-year revenue floor while preserving exposure to upside through revenue sharing. I’m excited to start seeing the first commercial operation of this asset after a successful project delivery!”
